Day 7

Friday, June 23

Home    Back    Next

Friday June 23, we drove 159 miles from Wenatchee  N47 25.5706 W120 19.4836

to Silverdale Washington N47 39.253 W122 41.4063

The drive from Wenatchee to Leavenworth was short. We stopped at a road side stand to purchase local fruit. There is always a river to cross.

Leavenworth was built to resemble a Bavarian village. We stopped for an early lunch and to walk through all the tourist stores. They were having an Accordion Festival this weekend, accordion music was blazing through loud speakers all over town. Laurence Welk would have been happy.

Yes, Paul is having another meal. So is Patty, but she got up to take the picture of her happy man. The food was authentic German, it was rich and good.

Once again we head for the car and onto the road.

On the way up the mountain toward Skykomish Pass we traveled through a very lush and scenic area.

This was a small dam, most likely for erosion control. A good amount of water is flowing over it.

The road followed the river most of the way up the mountain.

The road was in great shape, there was not a cloud in the sky and little traffic.

The mountains still have a little snow on them.

It is amazing how a little rain can turn an area into a jungle of greenery.

We are enjoying the green vegetation. I don't get to see much of this in southern California.

We are almost to the Edmonds Ferry landing. Puget sound is in  the distance. It took a lot longer to get into line as the old entrances to the ferry landing have been closed, and traffic rerouted. The signs were of little help, we made several wrong turns. The GPS software did not know about the change and did not help much either.

Finally, we are in the long line for the ferry at Edmonds.

Oops, I need to get back into the car, the line is moving. It was a single line back here and the cars are loading fast.

The whole end of the Ferry boat opens up, and two lines of cars can load at the same time. This makes for quick loading.

The deck hand said it was easy, "just follow the car in front of you, and remember to set your brake".

We are on the ferry and traveling across Puget Sound to Kingston.

Patty is enjoying her ride in comfort. She is on the cell phone calling .... I don't know who.

I am patiently waiting for the ferry to land at Kingston.

Just about to disembark in Kingston. Walking passengers first, then motorcycles and then the rest of us. I thought I was going to get run over as the cars went zipping past me headed for their destinations.

We are now in Silverdale, to visit Sheilah and the kids.

Their back yard looks as good as the front. Lush with green vegetation.
