Day 1 Saturday, June 17 Saturday June 17, we drove 261 miles from Jamul (San Diego)N32 44.131 W116 53.337 to Lake Cachuma (Santa Barbara) California N34 34.634 W119 57.596 The reason for stopping in Santa Barbara was to visit Patty's niece Colleen who was to graduate from U.C. Santa Barbara the next day.
Colleen is in the middle with her sister Chelsea, on the left, right of Colleen is Peggy, on the left end is Jon, right end is Dan.
The graduation dinner included some of the older folks too, from left to right, Paul, Patty, Chuck, Phyllis and Jon.
Phyllis got a ride in the car.
It was Chelsea who liked the car the best, I think she would drive away in it if I showed her how to start it.
Because of the graduation taking place that weekend there were no hotel or motel rooms available. We decided to rough it and brought along a tent. After a great graduation eve dinner in Goleta, we drove up into the mountains north of Santa Barbara to Lake Cachuma, a Santa Barbara County Park, and camped for the night. We arrived after dark and this was the first time to put up the tent. The tent stayed up all night, but morning showed that we missed a few hooks.
The lake is large, and the morning temperature was cool and damp with dew. The campground had showers, but no hot water, and I wished I had shower slippers.
